Microphone test — coming soon

You can verify your mic is working in ReplayFlow before starting a recording by enabling the microphone and checking the input level indicator.

How to test your microphone

1

Allow microphone access

Click the 'Start mic test' button and allow browser access to your microphone when prompted.

2

Speak and watch the meter

Talk at your normal recording volume. The meter should move and peak in the green zone — not too quiet, not clipping in red.

3

Adjust and re-test

If levels are too low, check your microphone is selected and increase the input volume in your OS settings. Re-test until levels look right.

Audio tips for better recordings

  • Always run a mic check before a tutorial or demo recording — discovering audio issues after a 10-minute take is painful
  • Aim for a consistent volume level when speaking — avoid whispering then raising your voice
  • Reduce background noise: close windows, turn off fans or AC if possible, and mute notification sounds
  • Headphone microphones often sound better than built-in laptop mics because they're closer to your mouth

Frequently asked questions

Is the microphone test free?

Yes. No account, no signup, completely free. Your audio stays in your browser — nothing is recorded or transmitted.

Why is my microphone not detected?

Check your browser's microphone permission. Look for a microphone icon in your browser address bar and ensure it's set to 'Allow'. In Chrome, go to Settings → Privacy → Microphone.

How do I know if my audio levels are too loud or too quiet?

The microphone test shows a real-time volume meter. Aim for the meter to peak in the green zone when you speak normally. Peaks in the red zone mean your audio will clip and sound distorted.

My mic is working in other apps but not in the browser — why?

Another app may have exclusive access to your microphone. Close Zoom, Teams, or any other app using your mic, then refresh this page.

What's the best microphone position for screen recordings?

Position your microphone 6–12 inches from your mouth, slightly to the side to avoid plosive sounds. Built-in laptop mics work well when the lid is not covered.
